Patients with atherosclerosis but without standard modifiable risk factors (or SMuRFs) have a higher early mortality compared to patients with at least one risk factor. A dedicated clinical pathway has recently been published with the aim of improving outcomes in this patient population.
In this podcast Professor Gemma Figtree talks to Associate Professor Peter Psaltis about research into this previously overlooked patient population including ideal screening approaches, treatment guideline recommendations, and what mechanistic insights might be gained from the SMuRFless coronary artery disease patient population.
